Chebanenko Slav or Classic Slav

I am currently looking for a secondary and more solid reply to 1. d4 and am deciding between the Slav or the Chebanenko Slav. I am 2104 USCF and looking for a solid reply to 1. d4 as I improve and play more and more titled players. I am not afraid of the theory presented by either. Does anyone have any recommendations for books and/or the pros and cons of each?

Thanks for your time!

thats a good questions... lets see... you are an experienced player.... the a6 slav will give you a situation wherre you might be more knowledgeable than your opponents. BUT, learning the slav will put you in a situation where you will gain a better understanding of more slavs and slav positions in chess...

better in one, learn more in the other.

give or take.

i guess we can say you can learn the chebanenko better, after learning the slav.

i like your choices, these are great openings.

you can find some good books, mathew sadler has written some, pederssen, and well chebanenko slav from bologan.

there might be a dvd from roman as well... although thats not his specialty (the slav)

I think the Chebanenko is fine if you don't mind playing sharply to get a draw.

Probably not that many players know the way to an easy edge against the Chebanenko (do the top GMs know, btw. ? Tongue out). After a while, you'll probably have experience on your side. However, the regular slav is probably way easier to play.

Thanks for the responses! Obviously it will be way easier to keep up with the theory in the Slav and also will probably enable me to play more chess rather than rattling of theory. Also, I currently exclusively play the Benko Gambit which has brought me great results but, I think, inhibits my overall understanding as I have little experience in "more typical" d4 structures. (I don't play d4 for white :)) I think I will end up focusing on the Slav. I currently have Play the Slav by Vigus. Any other books that you would recommend. Again thank you for the responses!
