Colle opening for white

Hi everyone!  I'm a beginner (as you can see by my rating, lol) and I have been using the Colle opening with some success.  Anyone have thoughts on this?  What is the best defense against the Colle?  Is it to wimpy of an opening?

As black I normally play center counter against e4 opening.  I play e5, they normally move the Knight to threaten, and the Q ends up on a5.  Pusing my c pawn allows the Q to nestle in behind,  and I develop and castle Q side.  It ends up very defensive and tight.  But I'm not thrilled with Q side development (especially after losing with the opening in tourney in Vegas)..

So, what is the preferred  defense against e4, and do you think the Colle is a good white opening?

Thanks in advance for any comments or questions.  I like this site a lot!

Well, the Colle could easily be considered "wimpy." Whenever my opponent plays an opening with the solid pawn triangle on c3, d4, and e3, (Be it Colle, London System, Stonewall, or Torre Attack) I find it hard to get play against them. So, as a result, I find myself calling their opening "wimpy" while they destroy me.  Wink

Thanks for the quick replies :)

I've been told many times to improve my endgame, which is where I am weakest, since  you are out of the opening within a few moves anyway.  I just want to have some sort of automatic responses in the first few moves, you know what I mean?  In case they do something weird - then I just go by instinct.

the mid-game is my favorte for sure.  So much fun to look for combos, pins, forks, etc.

the endgame is arduous work and pure calculation.  It's only fun if you have a clear win ;)

Well, thanks for the advice.  If anyone wants to challenge me, let me know.  But know in advance that I am new and I have a lot to learn at this point.  :)
