Colle-Zukertort

here is an opening that i came across and have had great success with. i think it is the only queens-pawn opening that we beginners can understand positionally.

here is the perfect example of a position that can arise in this opening

vastly better for white

In fact, it is not the best queen's pawn opening for beginners.(in my opinion) Yes, you can beat a lot of people with this opening, but I think there is a better one. You can easily set up a strong position with e3, Nf3, Nbd2, Bd3 followed by e4. This is really helpful for beginners who want to understand queen's pawn openings and its thematic ideas.

Some of my suggestions discuss the c3 idea.

Clearly you don't understand it positionally either.  Any player playing Black that is in their right mind wouldn't play 4...Nc6.

After 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3, for starters, the Colle is only useful if Black plays an early 3...e6.  After say, 3...Bf5 or 3...Bg4, both coined the "Anti-Colle", White has nothing better than 4.c4, which will, more often than not, directly transpose to the Slow Slav after 4...c6.  4.Bd3 here, against either 3rd move, is useless.

After 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3 e6 4.Bd3, Black can hold off on c5 if he wants to and say, play 4...Be7 and get himself castled first, but 4...Nc6 is just stupid.  No reason to block the c-pawn here.

After the main response, 4...c5, Black threatens 5...c4, pushing the Bishop back.  This is why White responds with 5.c3 (to build an escape for the Bishop on c2) or 5.b3 (outright preventing 5...c4).  If Black delays c5, there is no reason to commit to b3 yet.  Go ahead and castle and avoid annoying Bishop checks.  So something like 4...Be7, play 5.O-O or 5.Nbd2, waiting on c3 or b3 until you have to play it or until all other productive moves, like Nbd2 and O-O, have been played.

So there's a lot more for you to understand positionally.  If you really think that anybody of decent strength is going to play a move like 4...Nc6, a move that only the clowns would make, think again!

I dont like playing 4. c3 in this opening system.  I think that 4. Bd3 or 4. Nc3 are good alternatives depending on blacks move order.  Its a fairly solid opening.

Hi, i had been playing colle zukertort for abt 5 years n my comments are this opening is very solid, not many variation and sometimes quite boring.

here is my game

GM_Unknown_Pro

I had done plenty on research on all the colle variation and colle zukertort is the most solid among all.

GM_Unknown_Pro

This is another game i played

If u got any questions on this opening feel free to ask me

however, this opening got its weakness

1. not really good in attacking the KID, QID and london system

yureesystem

Colle-Zukertort is decent alternative to mainline.

SuirenBoid

MC played it in the recent WCC too

@GM_Unknown_Pro. You have been playing the Colle-Zukertort for 5 YEARS and you ate still 1400??...hmmm...

StephenCorelli

@GM_Unknown_Pro, you are generally supposed to play Bd3 as move 4, not move 9. According to IM Valeri Lilov, you are supposed to do that before you play b3, unless playing against Openings that start with fiachettoing the bishop first.

Princess_Fleta
And I think this is the best/easiest way to play against it as black! pretty much white can't do anything, and u will never get attacked

SuirenBoid

TBH I always enjoyed playing the Zuke but the lines with Bf5 and Bg4 are what put me off playing it regularly tbh. Like Yusupov I would still play it vs e6 but not unless the bishop is behind the e6 pawn

StephenCorelli

Hmm, generally, white should fianchetto before Nd2, and often you will see f4, and a rook/queen attack on the kingside after Rf3-g/h3

Cherub_Enjel

In the first position you posted in the first post, white's position is pretty bad. Black can play ...Ba6, and gain total control of all light squares. White will never be able to attack on the kingside or create any threats there, and black is very comfortable.

Cherub_Enjel

Might I recommend the Italian Game? The chance that you'll get to launch a successful attack in that opening is higher than in this opening, especially because in the Italian Game, when your pieces look active and scary, they tend to be that in reality! I'd recommend you to go back to the Nf3 Bc4 lines.
