French is a very rich opening, not long time ago the move 3...Be7 became popular in the Tarrasch and fully playable. The more theory and variations white has to face in the Tarrasch the more problematic the french will be to meet.

Is even this playable ? I think so/guess so.

1.e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 Nd7 !? ?!

The only defect is that the knight can't go to c6 in one move. Whether this is significant remains to be seen.

It looks like the natural approach with 4. Ngf3 Ne7 5. Bd3 c5 6. c3 Nc6 7. O-O Be7 8. dxc5 Nxc5 9. Bc2 is just good for White. Also, after 7... dxe4 8. Nxe4 cxd4 9. Nxd4 Nxd4 10. cxd4, White has things like Qg4, Qe4 and Nd6.
