I am relatively new to chess( have been playing for 2 months now). When I started I used the ruy lopez but I changed some time ago to the giouco piano. I wanted to know if there are any other openings you could recommend. As black I use french defence and am trying out the kings indian. Are there any openings you could recommend? Preferrably no gambits please..

If you want to improve though you need to focus on tactics. Making exercises and stuff. So if your doing openings to improve, it won't work if you lose your game on tactics.

If your doing openings for the sheer fun of it there is much to considder. What kind of positions do you like? You seem to have a mix of different styles in the opening.

No Kings Indian Defense for beginners! Stick with 1.e4 as White and 1...e5 as Black. Vs. 1.d4 play 1...d5.  Try and play open games and positions as much as possible, you're going to get stuck in semi-open and closed positions whether you like it or not sometimes, but when you have a choice in the matter stick with playing and learning open positions first - which means favoring K-side openings as White and double K-side openings as Black.

Thanks nimzo. @wouter I prefer open games but I get blazed when the opponent plays d4, as the game almost always becomes cramped but I am doin ok and am rated 1500 on an online chess league

I grew to like the giouco better. The ruy is exciting but not as much as it. But I am using the ruy again and I actually win more games with it..:)
