Creepy Crawly Alert

In my interest in the St. George, I was looking for an opening that would correspond to it as White.  I found the Orangutan with an early a3, but I found something even cooler.  The Creepy Crawly attack.  This is right into the St. George defense, except that h3 prevents future back rank mates and stops a potential Bg4.  Check this out!

Have you had much success with an opening like that?

He does against lesser (and maybe equal and higher, I don't know) rated opponents, like me. I must admit, it is VERY humbling that no matter how good you are, a person using an atypical opening can still defeat you with ease.

I have never played this in a rated game, although I have played the St. George in an OTB tournament.  Many people don't realize that it is a reversed St. George with a restricting h3.

And if they did, their strategy would change how?

I was convinced when I clicked on this link that this thread would be about the pick-up artists in Live Chess.

So was I Grobe. And that the "Danish and Scotch" thread would be about breakfast.

Another übermodern defence- using flank-developed pawns instead of pieces. Interesting.

I would much prefer to play the side with the pawn center. Why not use a better hypermodern opening?

Define what you mean by better.

This is perfectly okay for White. I like these kind of openings. Tony Miles is my favourite player, what a legend.

I remember Basman used to play the Creepy Crawly with 3. c4.

Never seen the 3. b4 move; although you are right, it's a reverted St. George. But is h3 really that useful? Just wondering, I rarely met the St. George over the board and I don't really know how a usual middlegame would look like...

This opening has great psychological benifits, but I don't like h3. I believe the extra tempo should be spent on b4, so that Bb2 can come faster. Still, playing this against a patzer will make him feel obligated to win, and when the win does not come easily, he will get very nervous.
