I used to love 1.e4 but now i play 1.d4 more.
d4 or e4
My fav is e4 i must admit. Not so much because i believe its the best move, but its just how i preffer it. Seems to suit my agressive style of chess...
I prefer 1.d4 because it controls the center right form the biginning more than 1.e4 because it is already protected by the queen.then,2.e4 starting the blackmar gambit my favourite opening which usually contains lots of traps

I actually find that agressive and attacking openings simply work for me with d4. This may seem really out of the ordinary, but I like to play the Latvian Attack and the Catalan. I like gambiting pawns and do not hesitate to gambit the c4 pawn. Most people my level usually take the pawn and hold onto it for dear life. Only at the Expert level do players give back the pawn and not be so materialistic. In my fave Latvian, I love it when they take my g2 pawn and h2 pawns. Lets me rake their Kingside with my better development and open files. They usually don't have a chance if that happens. If they are smart and don't take things, my opponents usually reach a complicated position. Just the kind of thing I like.
Could you post a game or two as examples? You've piqued my curiosity.

I'm an 1.e4 Player but I have no bias towards other moves I approach them with an open mind.
I do not like the slow positional games. I like the kind of games where lots of pieces are left hanging and you have to calculate accurate and fast or else you will lose because of a tactical shot, the kind of games where there is "fire on the board!"
You can't get that from d4, so I play e4. nevertheless e4 is not better than d4,c4,or Nf3. It's just a matter of taste.
1.d4 can easily give white attacking chances (not just on the kingside either) since black is normally cramped after d4 d5 c4 e6 or c6.white can make a very strong center with Bd3, or qc2 to prepare e4 and then e5 maybe. then if white wants to push his pawns, he could consider castling queenside. With d4 it is almost guarnteed less theory to learn because there are much less reasonable defenses to d4. against d4 there's about 5 good defences but with e4 there are probably over 10 so you have to know those. I think d4 has a more lasting intiative over e4 only because of the move 2.c4. I don't like playing against most 1. ...Nf6 defences though becasue black has more chances to get counterplay like in the kings indian.
I am a solid 1 e4 player because I love tactical play. But have been thinking about switching to 1 d4, mainly because 1) I don't like playing versus the Sicilian and 2) (as someone else already said) people seem to be more familiar with 1 e4 and prepared for it, and 3) I just feel like I need a change.
I like d4 more than e4 but i guess it depends on you tho
d4 is more positional while e4 is more tactical
