ha, i love that you posted this as a puzzle. you should challenge someone to recreate your whole game.

8...Qxf6 and Black has some advantage.

Alright, I thought this was going to be a puzzle but after move five I became suspicious that this was becoming a full on game. However, I enjoy the Danish Gambit so it was fun to try and work out the moves anyway. I am always amazed at hoe greedy opponents get when playing against this gambit. If you play against the Danish Gambit, you should know that nothing good comes of grabbing as many pawns as you can. I tell my students that any pawn or piece that looks like it's free for the taking often comes with a price. I enjoyed playing through your game and would like to show it to one of my classes this week.

what is a good defense then?

bresando

@Abhishek:If you want something solid, there's the Schlechter defense: 5...d5 leads to the rather forced 6.Bxd5 Nf6 7.Bxf7 Kxf7 8.Qxd8 Bb4+ 9.Qd2 Bxb2+ 10.Nxe2 Rxd8 with a balanced semi-ending.

I've known the Schlester defense for ages. White just plays 7.Nc3 with a enormous

tempo advantage. Whoever plays the Danish should always be aggressive but sensible.

8...Qf6 and black is fine.

yes, but as a compensation black still has a pawn and the bishop pair in a wide open position. Also white can't avoid a queen exchange anyway, so his extra development is still important but not so frightening. Looks like a perfectly ok defence to me. Chances should still be roughly equal. Of course black is making no attempt to "refute" the gambit, just getting a balanced position.

We were talking about 7.Nc3 indeed; 7.Nd2 looks like a blunder maybe you typed the wrong move?

pfren

7.Kf1 is the only good move for white. After 7.Nc3 or 7.Nd2 Black is clearly better.

Abhishek2

could be, but white has tempo and a better center.

pfren

After 7.Nc3 d5 white has absolutely nothing- he is worse, plain and simple.

All he has is two pawns less for almost nothing.

exf6 Qxf6 Nge2 preparing to castle.

Oh yes. After 8.ef6 Qxf6 9.Nge2 dc4 10.0-0 0-0 Black has just the bishop pair plus two pawns more, so white has the right to claim that he is not totally busted (most probably unjustly).

At least after 7.Kf1 white gets back one of the two pawns. Even 7.Bc3 is better than 7.Nc3.

Abhishek2

after exf6 Qxf6 Bb5+ c6 Nge2 cxb5 O-O, gaining a superior position.
