DEBATE: What is best opening?

English opening is the best, don't say anything

White: Reti Opening, Black against e4: Nimzowitsch Defense, Black against d4: Indian Game

A rare pick that I personally like sometimes is the elephant gambit, not my favorite, but it’s really good.

but my actual favorite can be either the Italian game or the Ruy Lopez.

caro kann queen's gambit vienna and englund gambit

Best openings for white are the Evan’s gambit its just good and for black if they play e4 then Caro kann but anything else then just the kings Indian defense but if going for the Evan’s if they play 2 knights then fried liver them

 (if they are low Elo) and when going against the caro kann I play d4 then exchange but I don’t know much theory, and if they play kings Indian defense I will just play what looks good like develop or defend my center but we Al know that Coca Cola gambit is the best

Emu gland gambit is not really good if gives up a Valuable pawn and it just hopes they play the moves you want them to just against e4 play nimzo Indian or kings Indian also nimzowitch Larsen attack in good

Evans is garbage, and most of the time you won't be able to play it anyway. You need to also know the Two Knights (Black should never allow the Fried Liver - If 4.Ng5, then 4...d5! 5.exd5 Na5! - DO NOT EVER ALLOW THE FRIED LIVER! 5...Nxd5??), Hungarian Defense, Philidor, Petroff, Latvian, Elephant Gambit, Sicilian, Caro-Kann. French, Pirc, Modern, Scandinavian, Alekhine. Nimzowitsch Defense, etc

Instead:

White - Trompowsky, Levitsky, 2.Bg5 Anti-Dutch, French Defense (1.d4 e6 2.e4)

Black - Petroff, Dutch (Stonewall and Classical via 1...e6), French (1.d4 e6 2.e4 d5 or 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.d3 Nf6 6.d4 d5)

French just blocks your bishop and gives very little space

I like the Trompowsky but I usually combine it with the QGD modern or exchange / Breyer Slav over playing the Levitsky.

I'm back to mainly the Van Geet nowdays though... I played e4 for a bit but it's just such a noticeable difference in the level of resistance I encounter via e4 due to players knowing their lines, in the Van Geet they just play terribly, you can just feel the difference...

what is the elephant opening please show me a game even though i probably will not use it cause you are 100 and I am 1400 on rapid just go to the top of your post and there will be a chess board and make the opening then at the bottom it will say post or insert but do you have a computer or mobile but you can do it on either

as an italian player i feel attacked 😂jk i know it’s unoriginal but it can be quite effective

yeah but you can take over the centre with the london but I like italian more

agreed london is great but it’s just so hard to make any progress unless your opponent blunders. the italian is solid too but it’s easier to find attacking ideas and reach sharp positions. ig it’s just personal preference
