Display current opening next to the game

Had an idea that may improve the general knowledge on openings:

In Live and Online chess it would be nice to see the name of the current opening! Currently, by clicking "explore" (in online chess) you can see the name of the opening + code, and in live chess you can only see it when the game is done in the archive. But why not display it realtime?

I have played 1000 games! And if they all had shown the names of the openings that I was playing, then I would know many more openings by name.  knowing the names also makes it more easy to communicate about openings.

Ive checked for settings that do something like that, but I dont think they are available? Or is this an unwanted thing because people could use it to cheat? For example by looking up info about the opening while playing Live Chess (online this is permitted).

Make some moves and youll see the name of the postion change realtime. This option is under the "moves"-tab when you are looking at one of your Online Chess games.

If you play this game and you see all the time that its the italian, then you will remember its the italian!

I still think this would greatly help people learning about openings.

I dont even know the name of the openings I like best! If they are displayed every time I will know their name and I can lookup information about it more easily.

This is not the place to explore opening names anyway.  There are HUNDREDS of mis-labelled openings here.  Better off using a real database, like chessbase, for that type of information.

Whoever labeled the opening names on this site is a complete and utter moron!

heyy 10 years later, i think we should update his idea. When the name is being shown, sometimes it is too long for the display and a "..." appears, maybe you should be able to easily click that to see the whole name, or in settings, be able to always show the name no matter how long
