d5 is a perfectly playable move. Black just didn't know how to handle it. Of course, that game had way more problems than that Foot in Mouth

Here we go again with another moron 1100 player trying to give lessons.

There is nothing wrong with 1...d5.  Most masters don't play it because there are better moves, but 1...d5 is not busted.

First off, 3...Qe6+ is horrible.  Black should either play 3...Qa5 or 3...Qd6 and he's fine.

Even after your moron move of 3...Qe6+, why the hell would you then play 4...Qe5?, asking for 5.d4!

Even dumber, after more dumb moves by Black, is 8...Qxf4.  Uh, the Queen is hanging!  No reason to play 9.Nxc7+, just take the blasted Queen!

This thread has been started up by a moron - everybody else should completely ingore it (And the OP!)

Are you trying to make black muck up? You'd better hope no Scandi players see this. Oh wait - I just did.Yell

Well, the first five moves for white weren't actually bad moves: it makes perfect sense to get a little development going while chasing the queen around.  And I can even understand what Black was trying to do, foolish as it was.   I start getting perplexed at move six, and by move 8 I'm just gaping in amazement:

8. Nb5Qxf4   Black puts his queen en prise

9. Nxc7+  white ignores the queen in favor of a knight fork that might win a rook

...Kd8  Black misses the chance for Qxc7
10. Nxa8  white *still* ignores the queen to take the rook  (It's not even a whole rook; the knight is now trapped so it's a net two points)

Qd6  Black queen retreats to safety

11. g3Qf4  Black puts his queen *back* en prise (two ways)

12. Nxf4Finally white notices what's right in front of him

Terrible game knowledge by both sides, ugh!

U have 24 hours per turn (at least) how could anyone do such stupid mistakes with that game timer?

I think many members here would beg to differ and be glad to prove you wrong, but you are entitled to your own opinion

Thank you for sharing this with us.

I definitely am not going to play d5 as black now.

The_Ghostess_Lola

You actually played brilliant....

EarthFlatNotaGlobe

LOL....do not play an opening you have no clue how to play.

NATHANKRISHNA

we have to improvise..now a days I play mostly e4 d5. e4xd5,Qxd5..

now is the variation..I bring the Q back to it's first square against general

rules of moving in opening a piece two times to the same square something like a crime..

I have won this way against higher rated guys..and rarely lost..

cabbagecrates

Yeah but Carlsen is just the butler in Downton Abbey, and Caruana is an opera singer. What do they know about chess?  OP is right - I've played the Scandinavian for forty years, since it was called the Centre-Counter Gambit, but I'm giving it up now.  1...h5 for me. Get your rooks out early.  See me roar.   Grrrr...

???   White played fine.

I think that part of the comment was more towards move 9 and 10

Succorance

I'm dumbfounded that after Qxf4 you played one of the worst moves on the board, trading a knight for a pawn instead of winning a queen. I'm also dumbfounded that he played the worst possible move and hung his queen and rook instead of just taking your knight and saving his queen with Qxc7. But maybe the most perplexing part of all of this is that no one else on this thread has noticed Qxc7. I'm leaving now and I'm going to try to forget this thread happened. My head hurts.

I noticed it and I'm sure others did too; post #7 did for sure. There was no need to give a full analysis of all the blunders in the game.

Oops, my fault. I missed that part of post #7. It's still perplexing that so many posts ignored this though.

A bit harsh, don't you think?

No, I think it's the truth!  Other low-rated players will be completely mislead if they read this utter trash!

Reading this would be like reading an instruction manual on Gourmet Cooking written by me!  I'm lucky if I can make scrambled eggs, cereal and milk, or macaroni and cheese from the box.  If I ever am stupid enough to write a book on Gourmet Cooking, please knock it as harshly as you possibly can because I would truly deserve it, kinda like how the OP deserves it here!

Anyway, 1.e4 d5 is the Scandinavian Opening.  Perfectly legit.

Frankly, it wasn't d5 that caused problems.  It was dancing the queen around instead of developing other pieces/pawns.  And of course blundering the queen eventually.

Missing 9.Nxf4 was fine then?
