You have put 100 members so I might manage to get eliminated...

If there is a sudden influx of registeries, let me know. I would enjoy having you in this tourney. I think it would be foolhearty of me, to not give players entry into this tourney, by turning away a bunch of non-paying members, when I have it at my discretion to provide a way for them to get in. It would perhaps be a turn off for other tournaments I might want to host.

I don't recall seeing it in the fine print when I signed on that, non paying members have to take a back seat to paying members, but I understand it is a decent default, providing Chess.com a way of trying to be fair in tough situations, for paying vs non-paying members, when deciding between them.

I play it from time to time in OTB-blitz games to reach a "Blackburne-Hartlaub-Gambit reversed"-position

Quite funny, but i cant judge, if you have enough compensation for the pawn against strong players...

As said before, 1.Nc3 d5 2.e4 de4 3.Nxe4 (please do not mention stupid gambits...) Bf5 or 3...Nd7 is a Caro Kann where white will play all his normal moves, while Black will have the luxury to either play ...c5 in one go, or omit ...c6 alltogether.

Sorry pfren...i did it again...Wink

Do any of your blitz opponents push the pawn to attack your knight instead of taking the pawn at e5? That is something I would probably do in a blitz game. Especially if my position or time are already losing bad, I would play the move you don;t expect to get you to slip with a premove or something.

I changed the name of the forum a bit. I am wondering if people couldn't find information on this opening in the game explorer here, so they thought maybe it must be a spam thread.

Here is a quick link to the thematic tournament I have set up:

I NEVER do premoves, not OTB and not online...Cool

But youre right...i dont like the positions occuring after 2...d4, thats why i dont play this opening more often.

My game vs NM with 1.Nc3

I would start out playing the Veresov.  You need to master the possible transpositions before you start playing such a flexible opening.

3.Nce2, intending Ng3 and Nf3 is clearly +=

I am not sure how or why that phrase was first coined and I am questioning if most people who use do either, but I find it hilarious as to how well people understand how to use it, inspite of perhaps being at a loss for it's roots, in essence...

Conzipe's line continues 4...Nf6 5.Bg5! +=

Do you know that this is a public forum?

GreenLeaf14

it's an interesting way toenter either the for The Viena game, the 4 knights or ever french and caro lines

AKJett

your opponent isnt usually prepared for the vienna...

also what about 1.nc3 nc6

GreenLeaf14

then i would probably go for KIA structures with Nf6 g3 Bg2  O-O e4 d3

My Chessmaster chooses 1...c5 and tries to force a transposition into a Sicilian line and it smashes me. Houdini by contrast chooses 1...e5 apparently trying to force a King's pawn transposition, smashes me too. Interestingly enough when I ask my Chessmaster to solve for mate from 1. e4 e5 , black wins....I find that quirk with those two engines peculiar.

Most people I play chose 1...d4. I find this move in particular, seems to limit white's options and thus the veratility that was sought after in doing so in the first place. However, I like this opening as a change of pace, to get an opponent away from the oodles of theory they have memorized in most king and queen pawn games. I'll admit I have lost my fair share with this opening, but I have won my fair share also.

Are you referring to the original Chessmaster for PS2 ? Or are you referring to the computer version called Chessmaster 6000 ? They also have a GM edition, but I haven't every gotten to see what characters are on it...

On Chessmaster for PS2, I used Nc3, transposed into a line of the Nimzo-Larsen attack and played GM Bogoljubov to a draw for about 45 moves. I had a huge lead in time. We were playing at standard time controls of 40 moves in the 1st 120 minutes, 60 minutes thereafter, with a 1/2hr of sudden death time. I had a way to draw, if I wanted to keep moving my pieces the right way behind our wall of pawns, in  a completely closed position.

I thought I had all of my bases covered to move any which way I wanted, to just run time out, unless he made a sacrifice of some sort. I overlooked one small detail. He broke through the pawn wall, and had me beaten in about 10 moves. It taught me to never take anything for granted and that I had alot to learn about playing professional level people at their time lengths.
