Don't bring your Queen out early? It worked here...

Anyone have some advice on how to prevent this early Queen+bishop attack by White? Thanks.

My whole point was trying to save the e-pawn but it didn't work.

3... g6 drives the queen away with a tempo and it's not weakening the kingside since your bishop will be going there.

If he still tries it with 4. Qf4 then the simple 4... Nf6 and you are safe and has a lead in development.

1. e4 2. Qh5 3. Bc4 is a garbage opening I see a lot in blitz games from White, but then I play sub 1000 players. I hate it!  2...Nc6 is the only best move for Black. 3...d5 is not the correct response to 3. Bc4. You must eject the queen, or you run into the mess that you posted. Here's how I counter the one, two punch on the f7 square. I placed White's queen on e2, which is a more logical placement, as it defends the light squared bishop and stays active. Ah heck, I may just play this junk opening a few times as White and see what happens. It has been done to me far too many times. Time for some revenge! Cool

Ahh.  Glad to find some strategic help for this.  Generally, I play well in the opening, but I almost always get dominated by hyper-assertive white queen play early.  I'll give this a try next time.

I have a game in my database where Kasparov plays 3...Qe7 after

1. e4 e5 2. Qh5 Nc6 3. Bc4 Qe7. Ugly move! He later plays ...g6 anyway to develop the bishop, however. I think 3...g6 is a solid option.

Your move, 3...d5, really doesn't work because white can just play 4. Bxd5, leaving white with a big advantage. Of course after 4. exd5 Nf6 5. Qd1 you have a great game after 5...Nxd5 (like tonydal said).

I actually go in with Nf6 after Qh5.  My idea: if white wants the pawn so bad, have it.  After the queen check on e5, be7 and white's queen has sped up black's development, and the queen is horribly missplaced.  Black just develops with tempo from that point on.  I actually read something recently that said this was a perfectly playable opening for white.

Only If I wasnt to lazy to save my Live games, I could post you 10 games with early Q for white, and 10 quick losses for white <20moves. You know, we have saying here, "In fear eyes are big", and queen near your king does look scary, but it is not. You dont have to panic.
