Check out the Bjerring variation or go to the Dragon forum at chesspub and read through some of the latest analysis by bragesjo et. al. The Dragon is alive and well. If anything, it's white that's seeking new answers.
Ivanchuk played like a moron against Carlsens dragon in their last rapid and still scored reasonably well :P.
But honestly, the Dragon is probably fine but it was WAY overrated for a time. I personally see it as something like the French Winawer... white should keep a small edge... but good luck :P.
