Dubious englund gambit

I was having a bad strike on another website with poor games unfortunately. But luckily i faced 3 back to back!! englund gambit players and earned my points back. Such an easy opening for white to win. Really dubious gambit.

Most Gambits are one trick ponies. Good for a one time win ....

With some gambits based on zingers once you figure out what piece(s) to deploy where... the gambit backfires in some form (tempo, material, positional etc)

In this case... Nc3 or a pawn to c3.. seems to get in the way of the standard attacks.. and Black falls behind in development.

I almost entirely faced this line. 1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 4. Bf4 Qb4+ 5. Bd2 Qxb2 6. Nc3 Bb4 7. Rb1 Qa3 8. Nd5 where white is already winning and is ahead in development. Englund is a one trick pony indeed and a free win for white

Ok, but you do not have to condemn an opening because one line is bad.

Imagine sacrificing a center pawn.

@sansuk

This is the engine line and the most common line played. The other common line is 6.. Nb4 which is again losing. Any other line is also losing or gives white all the advantage. Openings that rely solely on traps are bad openings

Most openings with 'Gambit' in their name are bad.
The material deficit lasts while the compensation gradually evaporates.
Queen's Gambit is the exception that confirms the rule.

Yeah queen's gambit is really really good. I've been playing it for a year or so (switched from the boring London system i admit it😂) and the results are super not to mention how much more interesting my games are

Toldsted

Queen's gambit is not a gambit.

@9

It is a gambit, black can accept it, but usually cannot hold on to the pawn.

Toldsted

@10 A gambit means that you sacrifice a pawn or more. QG doesn't sacrifice anything. Maybe you can call 1.d4 d5 2.c4 dxc4 and anything but 3.Qa4+ a gambit.
