Duras Gambit is 100% BUSTED

Oh well, I play it here as well as all other unsound openings. peshka.png

Strange, because in 3|0 games and faster, white tends to make the 4. Bd3 move most of the time against me.

Here's one from lichessorg:

Probably don't need to go any further on this one.

Now This is good for black.

No it's not. If White plays the much more sensible 4. d4 (or even 4. Nf3) instead of the terrible 4. Bd3 (which no decent player would ever consider, as it makes it hard for White to develop) Black is already lost and it's only move 4!

That line with 5. d4 and 6. Bd3 is very good... if you are playing White. Perhaps you even noticed that Black's king is exposed and Black has no queenside pieces developed... it's not hard to see that Black is completely lost.

You only play weak players in very fast time controls, so of course they are going to play weak moves. White just self destructed in that example game, so it doesn't say much.

But everyone knows that Qh5# is a blunder because you MUST do en passant.

No, en passant is not a forced move. And checkmate is never a blunder.

When you pass up a chance to play en passant FIDE sends out a hit man.

This is a Franco-Dutch transposition from the Durås Gambit, also called the Franco-Hiva Gambit or the Hawaiian Gambit.

Black’s biggest weakness is the a2-g8 diagonal but the early development really allows for a lot of tactical threats as seen in the example above.

You can reliably play this up to 2100 ELO.

while I have no respect for the house of duras...

there's poison in the gambit with black winning DESPITE an entirely wrecked castle and being 5 points down.

an opening isn't refuted until players actually DO THE FREAKIN' REFUTING!

just like the way i crushed a "refutes king's gambit" fisher in a dozen or so moves today.

you're likely not a grandmaster. perhaps the line is very trappy, or has plans that are hard to counter. I've seen the stats. they have no relationship to assesment in "the main line" (?)
