Personally, I play Sicilian Najdorf/Scheveningan vs 1.e4 and Semi-Slav to 1.d4.
The Dutch is more risky than the Sicilian in my opinion. Gotta have solid preparation for a bunch of Anti Dutch lines if you play Sicilian vs. 1.e4.
I like to consider the Sicilian Schev a solid opening that offers counterchances. In his book GM6, Ftacnik considers the Schev "an unbreakable defensive system that can last a lifetime."
He mentions that to play it well, you need to have patience and counterattack at the right moment. Often it is when white attacks you, that you get more chances in the Sicilian, as I learned in another thread a few months back.
In the Dutch, I don't consider Black as patient. By playing 1...f5 he is saying I'm going for a K-Side attack from move 1. The 2 openings have different "attitudes" so to say, if you get what I mean. In the Open Sicilian, white can choose lines which are more positional and don't allow Black as much counterplay. In the main lines of the Dutch, I think Black would get counterplay anyways.
Does anybody who plays the Sicilian play the Dutch or vice versa? I just want to know because I'm curious.
