e4 c5 Nc3 Nc6 Bb5

It's acutally been played alot in 2013-2014 and White has 48% Win. It looks very sensible to me. 3.f4 and 3.g3 seem to have a higher win rate for Black but maybe I shouldn't pay too much attention to that.

Oh dear! I seem to have misread. LOL.

I play the closed and Bb5 doesn't look sensible at all.

Bb5 is basically an Accelerated/Delayed Grand Prix. Whereas in the Grand Prix proper, White usually plays 3 f4 g6 4 Nf3 Bg7 and now 5 Bb5, in this line White accelerates the Bxc6 threat while delaying the f4 plan. It's a Rossolimo with ...Nd4 available for Black, c3 and d4 unavailable for White, but f4-f5 available.

Hey guys, keep posting useful information about this opening. Since I have a game going on, I should not ask any question about it, but any detail about a coming middlegame is welcomed. ;)

This could be a good weapon to avoid the Open Sicilian theory. Nothing upsets your opponent more than realizing his hours of studying the Open Sicilian were for nothing. By the way what's wrong with e4 c5 Nf3 d6 Bb5+?

It's pretty good stuff. I used to play it for some years.

Is 3..Nd4 the only move? What if Black plays something else like 3..g6 or 3..e6?

These moves allow the thematic 4.Bxc6 and then white can play f2-f4 before committing the g1 knight, with typical kingside ambitions.

A popular move currently is 2...a6, mainly used by Najdorf players.

TheShahofChess

O-kelly variation yes it goes well if White plays 3.d4 but is pointless if White plays 3.c3

I don't know a whole lot about the Rossolimo, but I know i have played it and noted this key difference between it and the ruy.  This is nothing too deep or theoretical but just something I've noticed.

The rossolimo is after 2.Nf3 and 3.Bb5. The quality chess book, 'experts on the anti sicilian' calls it the 'tiviakov grand prix attack', but the name is made up by them to honour its strongest exponent.

Unfortunately 3 c3 is slightly illegal with the Knight on c3.

TheShahofChess

Oh yeah I thought of 2.Nf3 for a second not 2.Nc3

White doesn't move back. White snaps off the horse.

Mainline_Novelty

In the Ross., White is often willing to take on c6 unprovoked, so 3...a6?! doesn't really make sense.

The author says:

Bb5 is a sideline that aims to reach a Grand Prix Attack type of position but having swapped off his lightsquared bishop, which is often a target for counterplay, whie damagining Black's queenside pawn structure. Similar to Rossolimo with two important differences: White Has not yet played Nf3 and so is able to get his attack going dtraight away with f4; on the other hand the d4 square is now available for the black knight.

I lost an OTB game in this earlier this season vs a strong player, I found it surprisingly hard to to handle.

yureesystem

Interesting alternate to my usual anti-Sicilian, in chess club or chess tournament you need more than system against the Sicilian.  The quicker you win against a low rated the better, you can relax for the next and prepare for the strong opponent and conserve you energy.
