e6 or d6

Would you recommend e6 or d6 as an opening for black? I plan to turn into kings Indian but kinda control the center in the beginning. Have any of you reading this tried this and if you havent are there any openings you would recommend to me?

Neither. If you start with e6 or d6, you are just going to get rolled.

Get a book on it. You need to know more than the first move.

Clearly you are contradicting yourself.

First off, ...e6 isn't even played early on, if ever, in the King's Indian.

Secondly, you can't force a King's Indian.  What if White plays 1.e4?

Thirdly, you say you are playing a King's Indian and you say you are controlling the center in the same breath.  It's one or the other!  The King's Indian is a hypermodern opening where Black surrenders the center to White, and then depending on what variation is played, either the center is locked and the players attack the side in which the blocked pawns are pointing (in Black's case, the Kingside) or the center is not blocked in which case black chips away at it!

I like d6 because the french defense is one of my fav openings

You cant force a Kings Indian against 1.e4 but you can try and have an Averbakh modern which has always looked extremely interesting to me.

1...d6 is NOT the French Defense!

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 is the French Defense!

Joseph_Truelsons_Fan
this my favorite style of the french defense.
BronsteinPawn

That is not a French Defense, that is a Franco Benoni Defense.

Joseph_Truelsons_Fan

It is French Defense: Franco-Sicilian

What about 5...Nxe5!-+. For this to work you have to play 5.h3 Bh5? 6.Nxe5 Nxe5 7.Qxh5 Nxc4 8.Qb5+± because the knight on c4 falls.
