What you gave is not the English Defense. It's the Symmetrical Variation of the English Opening.
The English Defense is:
1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6 3.e4 Bb7 4.Bd3 or 1.d4 e6 2.c4 b6 3.Nc3 Bb4
Or via 1.c4
1.c4 b6 and now:
A) 2.Nc3 Bb7 (or 2...e6) 3.Nc3 e6 4.e4 Bb4
B) 2.Nf3 Bb7 3.g3 Bxf3 4.exf3
C) 2.Nc3 Bb7 (or 2...e6)Â 3.e4 (The Two Pawns Attack) e6
Under normal conditions you may not need playing any "defenses" as white!
Why on earth would anyone with an 1100 rating worry about this anyhow? Are there that many people who play into the symmetrical English?
