Hey

I am a solid and ambitious chess player. I am sixteen years old and I love chess. I play every day chess because I would like to be the best in my town :D

So you can see I am a very ambitious player. So I need an opening which suits to my kind of play. The English or Catalan are good openings for me.

I have played the Queens Gambit for a very long time. So it can be possible to play the Catalan.

When I will play the English I will play the english and would not like to transpose into other systems.

Which opening is better for my kind of play? I find booth opening very good. I know that I have to decide but I would like to hear your suggestions.

I play with play against e4 the accelerated dragon (2. ... g6). Sadly I have not an opening against d4.

When you recommend me the english or the catalan, can you please give me a book suggestion?

I am not an e4 Player.

Yours sincerely Lukaas

You did not give me a suggestion. you only posted a list of variation for both openings. And I dont need a tactic programm. I have a very big tactic book here at home. There I study and train one hour a day tactics to improve my tactic skills and my calculations.

So I miss your suggestion. Can nobody give me a suggestion? In other topics people posted a lot but here in my topic are only comments from one person. I thought this is a big forum.

I am so disappointed

Honestly use both dude. It sounds like you want to play both.  I'm more of an e4 player but I do play the English in about half of my games and sometimes it does transpose and I end up playing a Catalan.  There are ways around transposing though if you want to just focus on the English.

Apotek

both first class openings and IMO especially unpleasant to opponents who like to wrest the initiative early on  and have active counterplay.Yes,use both.

Thank you. :) Which book can you recommend me? Is Tony Kosten's book for the beginning? Or the book English which was written by Jonathan Carlstedt?

ckam03

I heard the Tony Kosten book was good.  Just look around and find some reviews. You could also look for some videos in the meantime.

LukasRE

thank you

Excac'ly.

I think the Catalan move order can transpose into an English if black plays c5 trying to get into a Benoni and white does not play d5 as a result. Think it is necessary to be able to play both.
