Evans gambit easiest, least to memorise way to defend for black?

Hello everyone,

I just checked videos on Evan's gambit and it seems even if you accept or even if you decline, there are so many traps to fall into. Can anyone illustrate me (please no coordinates, thanks) the easiest way to defend to black, either accepting or declining the gambit. Even youtube beats around the bush with it without showing an easy defense. After very much difficulty using half a youtube video and half of my chess engine I came with a good defense, but the problem is I lose chance to castle and in a blitz game will be very difficult to defend. I will show the line anyway. Thank you

I like the variation with Be7 instead of Ba5. It's less to remember and there are no tricks. White can win the pawn back, but his pawn structure is not great, so it's fine for Black.

Hey punter. Thanks a lot for this. You should make a youtube video on this , you will get many views. Most of the videos on this topic on youtube, talk for too long without getting to the point.  By the way is there a greedy version where you get to keep the pawn, maybe asking for too much.

lasker's method went like this:

How about this variation?

@Dark knight: Thanks, however I think same was posted by punter earlier. Thanks anyways

@Snudo: That method is good, but most of the time they would not make the knight move right.

5..be7 is the line i play. white does not have to give up the bishop pair and can play be2 or bd3 but does lose some of his potential to attack. i think be7 does not challenge white enough like the main lines with ba5. black is just trying to get equality and not more, at least in the early part. but it does have only a few lines that are critical.

You can't keep the pawn and have an easy play, that's why it's a gambit

I enjoy employing the good ole evans on occasion and for me personally i think the best defense for black  is after Ba5 and d4, you don't capture rather play d6 and leave the tension in the center...

Avoid bc5 you could be faced with jerome etc try f5 after Bc4. Or Nd4 and quickly trade knights.

Refusing it is simple.

For example :

This way to play is safe and simple. Quite practical to face a rare gambit, u don't have to remember anything (almost), just don't take b4 and play simple with Qg5 in mind when Nxe5 occurs.

4...Bb6 is just fine. Alternatively, this line does not need much memorization and equalizes rather effortlessly:
