what do u mean titancg?
(BTW i was wrong i am 1578 (LOLZ))
I think it's a better to analyse your games and look for missed opportunities if draws are becoming a problem. Even in Evan's gambit there are quiet lines and the positions are similar to ones you already play.
I am looking for a more tactical opening than the giuoco pianissimo, because i think that my tactical skills are a bit above my playing strength (which is about 1800 (performance rating)) and my positiona; skills are a bit below (but i am studying to get better at it) I have an upcoming tourney on 8 Sept and I believe it would be nice to try something tactical.
On the topic now, what about the Bd6 line?
Thanks Snowyqueen! I assume I just follow the general evans plan (d4, 0-0, Qb3 etc.) I was looking for some games or traps (?!) in that line. By the way, I like the giuoco pianissimo but often get into very closed position vs. lower-rated players and lose unnessecary rating points. I am looking for something more tactical. 4.d4!? is something I considered (I even made a forum on another site) since I also play the scotch gambit. The problem line though is:
5.Ng5 is indeed premature. 5.c3 is I believe the best move. The problem is mostly 5...Nf6 (I may read up on the position after 6.e5, if there's anything)
As I said before, I believe that my tactical skills are better than my positional skills and that is why i want to steer the game into tactical positions, especially against 1300-1700 (FIDE) players (who are (I believe) not so good at tactics, especially defensive ones)
I agree with Snowyqueen that 11.Qg5 is a bad move, and definitely not best. What do you believe is best?
Also, anything else on the evans?
I play Ng5 (against lower-raters) because they do not find the right defence and play Ne5 losing a pawn. I know this desrves some criticism but i am able to outplay a lower-rated opponent even fom the (objectively worse) position after 11.Qg5.
Aren't we a little bit "off-topic" here? Opinions on the Evans, anyone?
Im no strong player but i have beaten players much better than me in the guioco piano masters also. If you draw alot there the opening might not be the problem. Also i think black can get giuocolike positions in the evans gambit anyway with Bb6 if i get it right so you are not really playing around it
will watch it thanks
BTW, who is Evan? it is Evans gambit not Evan's gambit
Yeah always quaintly referred to in older books as Captain Evans, back when it seems if you were a captain (Sea Captain? Navy?) you got to insist everyone call you captain. Or was it his actual name?
*google pause*
Well. It wasn't his name. His name was William (not to be confused with Bill Evans, the awesome jazz pianist). But he was a "seafarer" and the chessgames.com database gives his games under Captain Evans -- lol -- why, why him... I mean if I get myself a ship can I become Captain Pyth? Forever. That would be awesome!
what do you mean by guioco piano? 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.c3?
yeah but im not suprised if i got the opening name wrong. c3 and d3 and later maybe d4. im using john emms book beating 1.e4 e5 exept i play 2.Nf3 instead of the book recommendation 2.Bc4 which is also fine
Thanks tiger gutt this c3-d3 system is very good.
Anyway the tournament starts today and there is a round each sunday, so i will open a new thread and post the link here.
By the way, look at this position:
6. a5 and blacks KB is cut off from the king side defense while white also has queen
side expansion and a possible rook lift. Only a small edge but clearly more fun for white.
Kasparov was just lucky he didn't run into melvinbluestone. Of course Kasparov's preparation isn't as deep.
BTW I played the piannisimo against a 1015 (didnt want to risk with the evans as players below 1200 always fall into the same trap against the piannisimo. BTW, does this trap have a name??
