I like Ponziani opening because that teams have many traps

Pycksotas

Hey, I use that opening!

FIRD4US_10

wow!

ThrillerFan

Hard pass!  Nobody with half a brain falls for the lame traps and otherwise black has an easy game.

sndeww

Ponzi is ok, I guess.

FIRD4US_10

Ya I know it

Ponziani can be countered with Ponziani Countergambit and I've won many daily games with that!

Sheesh. If someone likes an opening, no matter how bad it is, don't knock them for it.

I saw IM Eric rosen like playing ponziani, thats because i like playing ponziani

congrandolor

Yeah, of course black is fine with it, but with the Petroff, for example,  the same happens. So I don´t know why the players prefer one above the other. Fashion, I guess.

Doesn't the Ponziani Countergambit already counter it?

Ngl ponziani is good it was my main until I switched to Italian the whole point I switched was that apart from the traps if black plays perfectly it's a draw

Not really best lines are given below

LawTonz

I like the piece sacrifice after Nxe4 d5 Bc5, sacrificing a whole knight. It's quite surprising that ponziani players know a bunch of traps but are not prepared for this piece sac.

Thunder7

I am prepared and am a former player lol

LawTonz

Good for you. I get this reply a lot in the forums but the reality is that the majority of players aren't prepared that deeply. If every player would be that deep into theory like the people here in the forum than the games would look different. I could play this line a 100 times and maybe one out of those people would know the exact line. And even if they do in isn't even that special. It's a game where the better player wins.

LawTonz

Yes correct its two pieces.

To the second one who cares?

To your third point, if I enjoy it I can play it. I actually didn't memorize everything. I have time in 20 minute (often with increment) games calculating the necessary variations. Since my opponent doesn't know everything either they will deviate anyway so that I can challenge myself to calcualte a bit more. And I can tell you in Blitz players on my level don't know so much theory and also don't know theory as well + they don't have the necessary chess skills (me included) which makes it an exciting variation.

I prefer a variation like that instead of playing the Stafford where regardless of whether I'm prepared or not will always know that I'm only playing for tricks as Black's position is for sure worse/lost.

I would only worry if I would play against stronger players like you who know the theory 20-30 moves deep but even if that were the case I don't care. It's always good to have a challenge.
