Hello.
I really love the French Defense, but in about 90% of games over the last week, White has been playing the Exchange Variation. Do you have this problem?
Sometimes I feel like I wasted all my time learning the opening, since I don't even encounter the main lines...

The Exchange is one of the main lines. People want to deny it because it's not the same as they others, but the French Defense has 5 main variations and then a few offbeat deviations like the Wing Gambit or the Reti Gambit (2.b3?!).
Those 5 main lines are:
3.Nc3 (Winawer, Classical, McCutcheon, Burn, Rubinstein)
3.Nd2 (Tarrasch)
3.e5 (Advance)
3.exd5 (EXCHANGE)
2.d3 (Kings Indian Attack)
