Found this article by GM Wahls interesting, since it goes against the grain of most opening advice for beginners.

Very strange. His arguments would make the most sense with 1600-1800 players, not so much with beginners. But he probably doesn't see much difference between the two.

From a coaching point of view, that’s his argument, it’s easier to teach d4. It doesn’t mean that d4 is easier to learn than e4. Or that playing d4 will stand better chances to win the game. It’s all about teaching sound foundational principles in opening theory.
