Former KIA, KID, Pirc players

Just curious.  If you played the KIA, KID, or Pirc for a while and decided to move on, why did you move on?  What (if anything) did you dislike about these openings?  What did you move to?

Used to play KIA. Only play it in the odd game here and there now. Theres just better options. Insted i play into main lines. I just think its a sin not to go into Sicilian and French games. How can you learn chess without playing these openings!! Anyway, its ok sometimes i guess. Um, i just think its slow for white and difficult to get an advantage in the opening.

I used to play all of them. I like to play aggressive, even if it cost me a game, I'm not a fan of drawing, even in a simul with a GM. the KIA is just to slow, I'd rather go into the spanish torture, or the sicilian/caro-kann/french mainlines.

Too much disregard for space. Just not enough options and dynamic play.

I adopted these openings after reading Yasser Sierwan's Winning Chess Openings.  I still use them in tournament play because I can usually get out of the opening fairly even regardless of what my opponent throws at me.  That being said, they really don't fit my style and I've been looking for different options.  I prefer more open games and right now am playing with the Danish Gambit after 1.e4 e5 and love the wide open game that often leads to.  As black against 1.e4 I've been experimenting with the Caro-Kann.  I'll be interested to see other responses to this too.

I used to play the KID, but found that it gave me very little space.  That factor pained me thru the whole game.  So now I play the Budapest Gambit

I used to play all three as well, however now I rarely play the Pirc and KID. I think that both of them are perfectly acceptable openings, but after using them exclusively in blitz matches, I decided to expand my horizons and begin studying lines in the Sicilian, French, Caro-Kann, and even the Scandinavian, although I will, on occasion, play the Pirc. For all current Pirc users, I recommend watching a game between Garry Kasparov and Veselin Topolav, 1999, and even though Black lost, I learned a lot about possible pawn formations on the queenside.

I still use the KIA on a regular basis, mainly because it can transpose into both aggressive and passive games, which can be a fun experience. Today, the KIA stands along with the Stonewall Attack, the King's Gambit, and the Ruy Lopez as a common opening I use for White.

I play all three, without knowing much theory.

Naturally, I occasionally get spanked like a red-headed step-child.
