Over the board, I have probably played the French about 400 times or so in the last 10 years with about 60 instances of 3.exd5. Garbage like the Two Knights or Reti Gambit I only get occasionally.
Here online, I get a LOT of Exchange, and often via 1.e4 e6 2.Nf3 d5 3.exd5 exd5 4.d4 Nf6.
As a French player for over 25 years (and probably 700 to 1000 French games), I LOVE facing the Exchange. Easy, easy, EASY draw and I fight you for the other half point.
Of those 60 Exchange French games in the last 10 years, I have lost twice - literally TWICE! Of all the rest, about a 2:1 ratio wins to draws. You should LOVE facing the exchange. It is true garbage!
Hardest to face are 3.Nc3 and 3.e5.
I play the French Defence. But it is a nightmare to play because of the sheer number of the people who play the exchange/2.Nf3/2.b3/2.Nc3/nonsense stuff. I do not know why everyone plays the exchange, it's hard to find a reason, but I guess they want to avoid studying theory?
To counter the exchange, I am working on a weapon that will punish white for playing the exchange. 2.Nf3 is also more common than 2.d4 for me (And the average opponent are 1500!!!)
I feel like people with white don't study the French. Thus, if you are a fellow player who plays the French Defence, could you share how often you get the exchange? For me, I get 27% but that's all time, recently I would say 70%.
