my first post here so I hope I'll be doing everything alright.
I am looking for an Anti-French type of opening and that found me looking at the Reti Gambit, which you get after
1.e4 e6 2. b3 d5 3. Bb2 dxe4 and then usually 4. Nc3 Nf6 and either 5. Qe2 or 5. g4
Now I am wondering if 5. f3 might be playable instead?
Obviously a gambit it looks like a logical move to me similar to what you would do on the queen side in other gambits playing c3 and Nxc3. The engine likes the book moves a bit better, but on my level that is probably not so important. I have done some research, but found almost nothing, only an old forum post in which the author of "The Fascinating Reti Gambit" brings up the idea and it is discussed controversly.
Does anyone know of a clear refutation or does anyone have playing experience with that line?
