Another thing to consider is that most defenses against 1. e4 lead to open positions, so e4 players expect to play open/semi-open games, most of the time. Playing the French forces the game into a different nature than that of most other positions resulting from 1. e4.
<p>Well i was playing a tournament today(i play the french) and i keep hearing my oppenent saying why the french?Do you know why because when you play (as black) 1.e4 E6 2.d4 d5 it freaks your oppenent so much they immediately think theyll lose and that your mental advantage.</p>
