Fried Liver Attack

What's the easiest way to avoid this early attack on f2? I usually try d4 in this position.

I think that you move the 4. Nc3 and you let your opponent move his Ng4 and do the liver attack on you.

Don't move 4. Nc3.   Move 4. Ng5 and you initiate the liver attack on him.

IMHO

3. Nxe4, Qe7 4. d4, d6 5. Nf3, Nxe5 6. Be2.... etc. its called the Petroff defense, and it is unfavourable for black to recapture on e5 immediately, so just take the pawn and don't fuss ;)
