I am, personally, a big fan of the Reti Opening, and as such one of my favorites is The Reti (Landstrasse) Gambit.

I guess you could call this a gambit.  It's a clever trap known as the Mortimer which can be played by black in responce to the Ruy Lopez.  Be careful though.  If your opponent doesn't take the bait (5.  Nxe5 ...), the trap has been set but not sprung, and you end up with a VERY bad knight on the 5th move, not cool.  This works good in blitz games as people tend to grab material w/o thinking it through to take an early lead in tempo as well as material.  So if you're playing someone analytical this may not be the best trap to set.  Its like they say, "don't play moves, play chess!" and "don't play against the board, play against the player!"

Hope you have fun with that one, I intend to!

Cheers

Thanks GSUJhill I like that one too..

nothing wrong with opening up the c-file, I don't care how early it is in the game.  One gambit that may have gone out of style but I'd like to play more is the evan's gambit..  Try looking up some Morphy games with that gambit, Fog.
