black could even play 6. d6 instead of qxe5+ because of the pin and just retake the pawn with the pawn too

d6 leads to Bg5 pinning the knight

nbd7 and dxe5 is coming. What's your solution now

Bxf6 Nxf6 Qe3 dxe5 Nf3

Take the pawn in the King's Gambit and get the better game.

Same with Smith Morra.

ng4 with tempo on the queen, qe2 and then e4! winning for black

Accepting gambits is the way to refute them. The real advantage with being material up is the freedom to sacrifice at the right moment if you are not greedy.

It doesn't.

Vienna Gambit: "it's not really a gambit cause it can not be accepted" - gothamchess

DasBurner

depends on what Vienna gambit you're referring to. 1. e4 e5 2. nc3 nc6 3. f4 exf4 is fine for black but 1. e4 e5 2. nc3 nf6 3. f4 exf4 is very different

BillyPilgrimN5

I play the Vienna gambit whenever I can and it gives me good, comfortable play always when its accepted - and I dont f@kk up. (Much lead in development, fairly solid structure, can win the pawn back, have a nice attack etc.)

BillyPilgrimN5

nf6 only

accepting is fine because after e4, the knight can go to d4 which is an ok square. Better is playing d4

There's also this rare one which might never even happen :

What do you think of this gambit?

Declining the Queen's Gambit can allow you to transition into the Grunfeld Defense. I decline the Queen's Gambit to steer the game toward a line that is more familiar to me.

How do you get to a Grunfeld after QGD?
