Declining the Queen's Gambit can allow you to transition into the Grunfeld Defense. I decline the Queen's Gambit to steer the game toward a line that is more familiar to me.

There's practically no way as far as I know to transpose QGD into Grunfeld!

What do you think of this gambit?

I've thought of that before actually

Yeah, I've never played it but it's a neat trick

"Is there a "GENERAL" rule about accepting or decline gambits?"
Accept them all. Take the pawn, defend, win the endgame. It is easier said than done, but each time you fail, you learn. Think carefully about how to organise your defence.
Do not get greedy: 1 pawn is enough to win. If your opponent offers a 2nd or 3rd pawn then it is often wise to decline the additional pawns.

Once you finish the game, you can then research the opening and refine if you believe accepting or declining was best, but for most gambits, taking one pawn and declining rest is a solid default to fall back on - you can just remember the few exceptions (if any) which come up based on your preferences, play-style, or level of study happy.png

This is another like really savage but at times easy to equalise gambit that I invented which is basically the Reti Gambit mixed with the Halloween Gambit and also mixed with the Queens Gambit !

Even if they don't fall for the landmines then you'll have 3 pawns for the knight!

You could as well discover the macaroni without hole in the center: After 5...f6?? white wins on the spot with 6.Qh5+

Funny .... Lol...

I wasn't delusional! I played another game today in which it happened. I was playing black in the above game when Queen's Gambit Declined: Marshall Defense transposed into the Grunfeld Defense--or at least that's what the ticker at the top of the screen said.

Using the Marshall as a move order trick to get into the Grunfeld isn't good as white just plays 3. cxd5 and black has to sing for his supper to prove that he isn't just losing

Old Benoni isn't a gambit but okay... also are you talking about the Benko or the normal plan in that variation?

adityasaxena4

This is the whole point of the gambit!

adityasaxena4

This is also another way that gambit can go!

adityasaxena4

This is also what can happen if white avoids the landmines!

I'm not talking about the Benko but the normal plan in the Old Benoni after d5 by white!

oh that depends on what setup white does. Pretty common still.

What do you mean by that?
