Hey guys, I just wanted to know what openings would be best to play against 1400-1700s because I'm trying to boost my rating to 1700-1800 and i am almost 1400.

If you guys could give me some tips, that would be awesome!

In you giving me tips, I'll give you a tricky opening theory (with my best annotations).

The Grob is bad. Don’t play it. And it is a very bad idea to just play for tricks and traps. If you actually want to achieve 1800+ you’re going to have to learn to play real strategic chess. Here, you are simply asking for a more advanced version of the 4-move checkmate.

@Fizzyband Okay, that's fine. So I'll rename it to "Openings to play against 1400-1700 in blitz". So, what do you think is a good opening @Fizzyband?

These tricks don't work.

This is a wrong trap and u can find how can black refute this on chess.com forum, we already mentioned many times here.

The thing is : good openings against 1400-1700 are the same against any level!

Just play good moves and u will get the reward, no need to play only for tricks and traps...

A good opening is an opening playing for quick development, controling centre, avoiding to weaken your position.

g4 is just weakness for king's side so u can play it for fun but no more...

Thanks @poucin... Could you give me an example? I play Ruy Lopez as White and Caro-Kann/King's Indian as black. I want to shift over to more positional, quiet lines. Maybe we can fill in some action too happy.png

These openings are "normal" and of course fine, played at any level up to top level.

So it cannot be bad.

Though i never recommend these ones bcoz need some skills and experience.

I prefer classical with 1.e4 e5 (or 1.e4 e6 because french gives some clear and straightforward plans), and 1.d4 d5.

Okay, thanks!

My suggestions:

White: Either 1.e4 if you’re willing to learn some more theory of 1.d4 and the London System

Black:Either Dragon/KID, @poucin ‘s classical suggestion, or the Caro-Slav setup (c6 followed by d5 against anything)
