Grünfeld Defense: Classical Exchange Variation

13...e5 is certainly possible, though I find it hard to accurately judge a move like that. I play 10...Na5 11.Bd3 b6 12.Rc1 e5 which is similar and playable. I have good results with that variation over the board.

what about 10..Qa5? someone play this to me in a tournment.. i simple played Rc1.. is this the best way to continue?  (i was playing white)

11Rc1 doesn't seem right because black can play 11...pxp with the end of white's pawn centre. Probably just 110.0, and white should be better than normal lines because Qa5 away from kingside, and not doing much.

8...Nc6 9d5 Na5 10 Bb5ch bd7 amd knight will go into usual c4 square. If black bothered by this can play 8...0.0 first.

that is actually what happened in the game..
11. Rc1 pxp
12. pxp Bg4
13. f3 Bd7
14. Qb3 Qb4
15. d5 Qxb3
16. Bxb3 Na5
17. Rc7 Rfd8

and the game continued and after some comlications ended in a draw..
so why is Rc1 isnt goo?

10...b6 is one interesting try, if Gelfand plays it after preparing grunfeld for the WC match it must be sound:

I'm also interested in the quick h4 lines that seem to have become a fashion as of late.

I was confused and thought 0.0 hadn't been played. 11Rc1 looks ok, but 11Rb1 probably better to keep pressure on b7, and b6 not a good idea leaving queen short of squares. That was probably your mistake in game, from point of view getting advantage, you should be playing to show Qa5 misplaced rather than allowing exchange with Qb3.

Karpov and Kasparov contested this line at the highest level when it was uncharted territory in 1987 in the World Championship Match in Seville.

Honestly the most testing line for both sides seems to be the exchange sac after 10...Bg4 11. f3 Na5 12.Bd3 Be6 13.d5. Is avoiding this line with 10...Qc7 instead a good try?
