I've played halloween gambit all the time, and had it played against me. The main line is d4 of course. It isn't difficult to defend for anyone rated higher than 1400 or so. Overall it's a terrible opening but it's fun in bullet games because it burns though 30-60 seconds of the opponent's time if they've never seen it before.
lol, despite it's unsoundness I've had 2300s play it against me in blitz - I usually think too much and get low on time but I somehow flagged one guy, and lost to the other.
oh lol... i don't like playing the alekhine as black i gave it a few tries, also it just turns the board into a big ugly asymmetrical mess .
Yes, I agree it is bad but I am rated 800 and at my level, many players are confused when I sacrifice. They don't know what to do and it is an easy way to take the board.

It is bad, but you get a huge psychological advantage.
