Normally I will advice beginners to play normal moves, and answer 1.d4 with 1...d5.
But as you want something rare, then try to look at the The Dutch: 1...f5.

Hi! I would suggest you to play 1...d5 to meet 1.d4, and if 2.c4 then 2....c6. This way looks to me rather consistent with your repertoire, and on the other hand in the Slav/Semi-slave complex you could chose either positional or tactical -and theoretical- variations that could suit your need.
Additionally, you could virtually start all your games with premoving 1...c6
Good luck!
Since you like the Caro-Kann and intend to stick with it, have you considered answering 1. d4 with 1. ... c6?
Openings that control the middle are good. The example above is not a good one (correct me if im wrong)

Although you are correct that controlling the center is good. 1.b3 is a respectable opening choice. Even though it does not follow the classical principle of controlling the center with pawns. It follows the hypermodern principle of indirectly controlling the center with piece play.
I am 900 in rapid and blitz, I am consistent in 80% of my games in the opening, I always play the london as white and got really good at it, as black, I only know one opening and it’s against 1. e4, the caro kann. I like both and I want to stick with them, but I need an opening against 1. d4, I do not like to play mainline moves that just play basic chess (d5 or Nf6 and develop accordingly), I like to know the theory that most of my opponents don’t so I can get them in awkward positions for them but well known positions for me, like the caro kann. So what opening would you suggest for a beginners against 1. d4?
