HELP!!!

can someone introduce me to an explosive opening attack? i'm 1700 something and i feel ridiculous. i wasn't paying much attention in a game against a 1200 something person and he forked me with his knight. this never would have happened if i had a better opening.(also i know that the mistake was due to a lack of focus on my part. i have not lost and am not out of the game but it's embarrassing). i need a way to get ahead of lower rated players in tournaments, etc, more quickly. obviously i would like opening suggestions and NOT advice on the specific game. thanks.

If your a 1700 player now is the time to start a porper opening repertoire if you a serious about getting ahead in the game.

So first of all do you play 1.e4 1.d4 or other?

What stlye of player do you consider yourself?

If you want explosive I reccomend the Vienna game as it has many gambit lines etc. The dutch as black can be aggressive although there are boring lines and the sicilian or pirc as black against e4 are quite tactical.

It doesn't matter how good your opening is, if you don't pay attention you can get in trouble.  There are no openings that give you more than a small advantage if the defense is played well. I don't study openings, and get out of MOST openings with a playable game. Unless I dont pay attention! If you cant see a knight fork comeing, the opening you play is not your problem.

well if your into getting forked in the opening, i would reccommend something like the grob or the 8 pawns attack!   :)

Being forked is usually a sign of bad tactics, not bad openings.

 i know i didn't pay attention enough, but this game isn't the only reason for wanting a different opening. i've been wanting something different for quite some time. by the way, i play e4. it usually is great because i have much experience with it.

 again, i will try to focus more; but i would like openings.

How many openings have u studied so far?

Most likely ur just trying to make the games more interesting for yourself instead of playing the same sorts of lines. So that's y i asked what u currently know so u can work out from there which ones to study.

An idea is to have a look around at articles, blogs and forums to learn what other openings have been talked about and then experiment with them to see which ones suit ur tastes and style of play.

If your getting into bad positions it's more likely bad follow up from the openings and lack of decent planning that's causing ur issues more then opening understanding of lack of itself.

i haven't really studied openings. i just use the e4 mostly and use logic from then on. i'm sure if i focused on games more than i do now, i could be way better. i just don't have time to dedicate right now to looking too far into games or openings. i just need some ideas so that i can possibly study them over the summer. i DO indeed want to know of openings so don't take what i just wrote in the way that i can't study a little. thanks for your input Ian_Sinclair.

Hhhmmm i would say study them when u have time! Because there are no such things as short cuts or quick easy solutions to make u  decent in the openings as in everything worth doing right. Just focus on ur games more watch how the stronger players play there games and when u get time look for openings brought up before in forum and so on as previously stated.

A good opening is the queens gambit if ur sick of e4 idea, but its more positional then tactical usually. 1.d4...d5 2.c4 ( gambiting the pawn by sacrificing it in order to control the center better) ...c6 or e6 which ever they prefer. 3.Nc3...Nf6 is usual. Just to give u an example. A good simple opening book is ' winning chess openings' By: GM Yasser Seirawan. Simple to read and gives basic idea's behind common openings.

bishops opening 1e4 e5 2. bc4 go from there...always pay attention to knight forks though!

Bishops openings is for beginners in my opinion! Plus he is sick of e4 openings as he said.

I would go with d4 openings. The games play out differently than e4 openings.
