Ive avoided looking up the sicilian as long as I could. Im just a little tired of running the french over and over. Not just more space... the b5 move threatens b4, unhinging the guard of e4. It also covers the c4 square, which makes an excellent Knight outpost on the open c-file.

I often play a6 at one point, but not very early. Sicilian is very temposensible, and there are moves that i feel must be played earlier.

In the O'Kelly variation, a6 is played early with a specific tactical idea, not just on general principles.
