This opening has helped me a lot, and hurt me a lot.

4. f6 isn't good... work from there and finding the best move should be easier.

if black plays Nh6 stops whites threats.

Instead of 4...f6 you can try 4...Nf6 It develops another piece.  :)

White got it after 80 plus moves.

With all due respect, and I do appreciate the replies, Nh6 does not work.  The bishop can simply take it (after a pawn is moved to clear the way for the bishop).

Bishop can't take it because the knight on g5 is in the way.

2. Nf6 is the counter I use to defend against this.  It forces the Queen to move, and blocks the usual retreat that threatens mate for white, which is Qf3.

Nf6 is one of the counters, but not on the second move. The pawn on e5 is hanging.

I usually hang the e5 against lower-ranked players, as 3. Qxe5 Qe7confuses the heck out of most people.

what's the earliest you've seen a queen out in the open in a grandmaster game?   There's a reason - continual attacks on the queen would let black develop piece after piece, and all white can do is move 1 piece around.

Thank you all, I guess Nf6 is OK, but no defense is inpenetrable.  This one seems vulnerable to a pawn coming up and attacking the knight.  Funny, I always thought that bringing the queen out early is a mistake, and that a good player could obliterate this opening.  But perhaps not?

You all need to go play chess mentor. This opening is bad. The only reason you can be winning is if black is just as bad. Please stop teaching blitzkreig.

I'll whip out a book I have here (and put it into the diagram
that shows how Scholar's Mate is refuted; or the general idea, at least

What if 6. Qc3 instead

Against weak players I play Nf6, hang the pawn, open the e file and kick the queen with Nc6. My theory is that they will end up defending poorly and I have turned the initiative.
