How to play to rossolimo variation when, scillian player plays h6 move?

After 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 a6!? White should play 3. c3 and then 4. d4! striking at the center, whereas the pawn on a6 is not doing much. It is nearly identical to the Alapin, except that White has an additional tempo because of the Black’s early a6-move. Sometimes it leads to French Advance lines with a premature a6 for Black (maybe it will transpose to a St. George Defense).
3. c3! and then, if reasonably possible, 4. d4! Use this simple strategy. It helps to understand the ideas behind the Alapin.
3. c4! is also good, especially if you know how to play the Maròczy Bind or similar structures. It mostly blocks Black’s b7-b5 attack.
Hope this helps!
@LM player: Thanks man, I just checked alapine, after your post. Seems reasonable. I will try that and let you know, how it goes. TAlapine from beginning is too complicated for me, but as you said doing it after rossolimo fails is a good idea for beginner . Thanks a lot
@LM player: I just did what you said and won a game with a higher rated opponent. Can you look at the game and see if I did what you said ok, or I was lucky. Thanks a lot for your help. He resigned because I was really aiming to do what was suggested by the website anyway.

@samchessman123 congratulations on the win! Let’s take a look at the game:
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 (note that I only advise 3. c3 against 2...a6 by Black. Here, White would be better playing 3. d4) 3. a3 (avoid playing an early a3, as it is not a very active move) 3...a6 (planning 4...b7-b5) 4. c3 b5 5. d4! Bb7 6. e5 d6 7. exd Bxd 8. dxc Bxc 9. QxQ+ KxQ 10. Be2 Ke7 11. Bf4 Nd7 12 O-O Ngf6 13. h3 Nd5 14. Bh2 f6 15. Nbd2 N7b6 16. Nb3! Bd6 17. Rad1 e5 18 Nfd2 Rac8 19. Ne4 Rhd8 20. Ng3 Nf4 21. Bg4 Bxg2 and so forth are mostly good moves from both sides. Engines could probably find any errors easier than I can, though.
You played pretty well, overall. Remember to avoid playing an early a3.
Hey thanks a lot LM player, but i still have s question. I played an early a3, because if black then plays nc6 i can play my favourite rossolimo. I didn't play d4 because having a lot of success with rossolimo i have to play d3 to have a good game with rossolimo. So it is a cat and mouse game with opposition player. I need d3 move if i switch to rossolimo, any other ideas as a substitue for a3 move that is not d4.
against the a6 move, white usually goes for a c3 sicilian where a6 is not so useful, or a c4 sicilian where a6 can be arguably too early and not necessary. i think the most practical is the c3 sicilian as you can play this against e6 type sicilians as well, as we know you cannot get your bb5 against the e6 types. c4 is also playable vs the e6 sicilians but is a lot trickier in the move order department. i play the bb5 systems vs the sicilian and i also play the sicilian as black so i have some idea of what goes where. just enough to not get me demolished before the opening is done.
Hello everyone,
EDIT: SORRY I MEAN BLACK PROPHYLACTIC A6 move, I'm so bad at notation lol
As a beginner rossolimo is my favourite defense against scillian, it is so great for beginner to try. However recently I have noticed sciliaan players are playing prophylactic a6 move to prevent this, any chance I can still play rossolimo with these players, should I move my bishop early. If not what else can I play with the a6 sicillian. Thanks a lot. This is an example, I was thrown off as I couldn't play my favourite rossolimo. I didn't move my bishop early to g4, because without a knight there to capture opposing players can make pawn moves and trap my bishop. As a beginner what to do here, any chance to play rossolimo. Thanks
