hi guys,

I dont know what the sucsess rate for the opening above is, but I come across it from time to time and can not help thinking, realy? and feeling kind of insultet. Did you realy think that would work?

Now what I am looking for is a way to realy punish the poor player for going for something like this. Does any of you have any ideas or any great combos to follow this?

Some people are playing this for the quick mate because they think you are stupid or that they are smart, but some play it in connection to a style called Matrix Chess (http://www.thechessdrum.net/talkingdrum/TheMatrix/).

I play this from time to time, and it's not because I'm going for the early mate, it's because it is the most aggresive possible starting sequence that immediately puts black on the defensive.

He's a bit behind in development, but that's not fatal, especially in a game between 1300s. Just keep developing and be happy that white's making the opening easy for you to play.

After black plays Nf6 and Bg7, black has a nice little set up.  If you really want to get rid of the annoying bishop on c4 you could play Na5 at some point.  But, I don't think there are any "traps" in this position, or any way to "punish" white other than continuing with a solid opening.

Blowing White away?  No!

However, just the simple 4...Nf6 and White's position is completely retarded.  What on earth is the Queen doing on f3 other than posing a single mover patzer threat of mate on f7?  I can tell you what the Queen is doing.  Getting in the freaking Knight's way!  That's what it's doing!

Don't rush to play it, but a timely Nd4, especially if it becomes difficult to cover c2 other than via Qd1, will gain a valuable tempo.

If White proceeds to be even dumber with his play and plays 5.Qb3 with the "Na na na na na na! I'm getting a pawn" attitude, you tell him straight up "No You Ain't!" and punch him right in the mouth with 5...Nd4!!

After 5...Nd4!!, if he moves his Queen, something is going to fall.  If 6.Qa4, then 6...Nxe4!  If 6.Qe3, then 6...Nxc2+ winning on the spot.  If 6.Qd3, trying to hold both c2 and e4, then 6...d5! and if 7.exd5, then 7...Bf5! is going to be more painful than a bowel movement the size of a cantelope!

If instead after 5...Nxd4!!, White tries to claim a pawn, he loses a piece!  6.Bxf7+?? Ke7 7.Qc4 (otherwise the Bishop drops immediately) and now 7...b5! completes the winning of the piece.  The Bishop will hang once the Queen moves!

If White doesn't go for the stupid 5.Qb3, then again, his Queen is where his Knight belongs, and Black will get faster development.  Also, be on the lookout for tricks with ...d5 followed by ...Na5, similar to the Two Knights Defense.

There is no hard and fast "system" that can be played against all White 5th moves, but 4...Nf6! and I'll take Black all day and twice on Sunday!
