The OP is an idiot.  That does not refute them.  It avoids them!  Two TOTALLY different things!

After 1.d4 e6 2. (Something other than 2.e4), you have simply avoided the French.  You have done nothing to refute it.  In fact, you are probably too scared to take it on, head to head!

1. d4 does not refute the French, as 1. ..e6 can still be played and the transposition is still possible with 2. e4, indeed, it is likely preferred from that point.  If you assume it's going to transpose into the QGD and play 2. c4, black can reply with a host of favorable lines such as the KID (2. ..Nf6), the Benoni (2. ..c5), or the English Defense (2. ..b6).
