How to remember chess openings effectively

It would be really awesome if chess.com would develop an "openings trainer" that is based on the tactics trainer platform.

It could play out the previous several moves, and challenge you to play out the next few. Focusing of main lines and recognized variations - It could tell you which opening/variation, and the user could pre-select the openings they want to include. It could even include relavent tactics problems, and provide links to chess mentor lessons related to the situations in the problems...

That reminds me of the software Chess Position Trainer. Although it says 'Chess position', it is mainly for learning openings.

Is that you in the pic with the headphones on?

Yes, it is similar to Chess Position Trainer, which I also own and use.  One point of the article was actually to show how useful the free program Lucas Chess is (very under-rated).  One reason I sometimes use Lucas Chess instead of CPT is the variation tree view.  CPT has something a little bit similar, but I don't find it as easy to follow.  I also really dislike the chess board graphics in CPT and you can't really change them.

And yeah, that's me on the left side of my avatar with the headphones on.
