I constantly find myself in this position. I am black Now I know this is a bad move from white. normaly I just try to get a lead in development and try to control the center but is there a better way to punish the oponett for this move and  win material?

Because the queen is clogging up the f3 square (which should be inhabited by the knight), black is to be preferred.

yeah and i (black) do fine getting ahead in development whenever i see this move but I wondered if there was a better way that would make more of an immidiate impact or deliver a more devistating blow

What about using the pawn to move to g6 thus forcing the queen to move or be taken?

normaly I do that by developing my other knight

In the mainline, if you do that instead of g6 you will be mated.

I develop the g8-Knight to f6 on move two

Then the e-pawn drops.

You have to protect e5 with Nc6 or d6 (I prefer Nc6), and then if White is stupid enough to play 3.Bc4 (after being stupid enough to play 2.Qh5?), then 3...g6.  If White does anything else, then I probably would play 3...Nf6 instead of 3...g6.

We had a player in Charlotte who I think finally gave up the idea, but he basically played 2.Qh5 against anything other than the Modern or Alekhine.  In other words:  1.e4 c6 2.Qh5, 1.e4 e6 2.Qh5, 1.e4 c5 2.Qh5.

Against the Scandinavian, he'd defer it, like 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3.Nc3 Qd6 4.Qh5 or 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Qxd5 3.Nc3 Qa5 and after he got the Queen away from a5, like to c7 or something, he'd throw out Qh5.

I think he knows the e pawn drops, it's played as a sacrifice.

Yeah, it's the strongest continuation in my opinion, with lots of traps available. Black gets more than three tempi for the pawn and in many lines wins a pawn back. I think the correct assessment after 2...Nf6 is 'slight advantage for Black' or at least 'Black has full compensation for the pawn'
