I've heard it said that you learn to play chess by learning how to play the Ruy Lopez. I've never heard that said about the Scotch. If I went through my chess career and never played the Scotch I'd be ok with that. At some point I need to add the black side of the Ruy Lopez to my repertoire. And I don't mean the Berlin Wall.
That all said, I do enjoy a good Single Malt.
