ive been thinking about adopting a hypermodern setup with 1.Nf3-2.c4 and going for a reverse benoni or english. and as black, ive been using the benko and benoni as my main weapon agianst d4

are there any drawbacks to a hypermodern type of play???

++ Seems reasonable, but why not just main the English? The KIA isn't very strong.

++ Cool. That was my old weapon, but it isn't easy to play.

++ Yes. You immediately lose all control of the game and are forced into a more cramped, closed, and passive position. Fighting openings are better, but if you don't mind shuffling your pieces around a Hedgehog for a few turns waiting for your opponents to blunder, good on you, go out and win. Personally, wouldn't recommend them.

yeah but with an english setup you still have the flanks

just look at the reti gambit after they push d4 you can get b4 and dominate the flank

The Reversed Blumenfeld Gambit is actually supposed to be ok.

Yes it's the ultimate weapon for intermediate players if you know some basic concepts of controlling the centre and how to get it.

I have played it very few times and mostly players play something like this and you just get a great centre control and fluid development, also you need to know one King's Indian line and you're good to go, main move is after 2.c4 is to play d4 but I have not seen someone play it at intermediate level. Still then the mainline position #5 showed looks very promising for White.

Here's one of my games from a rated team match here on chess.com.

It is a 1. Nf3 and 2. c4 game.

#7 what about the natural moves c6 and e6

the fact that people have played Nf6 but not those two is puzzling

Well you can play some main line of slav or QGD I suppose. Yes they are natural, sorry for not mentioning them, I was just giving positives I suppose. Playing Slav or QgD from white should be quite fun.

Agadmator is a strong player who also fell for it, as developing the knight does seem very logical.

Of course people have played c6 and e6. It doesn't show up under the Reti system because it transposes directly to the Queen's Gambit, Slav or Orthodox line.
