My opening study included the free ebook 700 Opening Traps by Bill Wall and Traps and  Zaps by Pandolfini and watching Back Yard Professor videos as well Chess Openings by Dereque Kelley. Although a lot of positions in the traps, one wouldn't encounter, I started to get a feel for how traps were set up and why, and one starts to get an appreciation for certain openings and which ones I decided on for my repetoire. Dereque Kelly is good at explaining the pitfalls and benefits of the openings.
