You say you want to play a general system in your first sentence, but that you don't want to play any of them in the second. Could you clarify? If you don't want a system, you'll want to know theory against the popular defences (which is probably better).
Ideas for playing 1.d4

The tarrasch and the french have a similar pawn set up, the slav and caro kann can appear similar, kings indian and pirc appear similar. I'm not looking to dodge theory but find a system of moves which are similar in look and plan against, most of blacks responses, which in turn could reduce the amount of theory.I'm just not that keen on the colle etc.Hope thats clearer

No no no no
At your level, focus on tactics tactics tactics....
Don't bother changing openings. Stick to 1.e4 and go train tactics. Until you improve your tactical ability, your game won't improve much.
The first step to that is noticing hanging pieces. Then read up on all the tactical motifs and practice combinations.
You say you play a Slav/Tarrasch setup but let me juts say that these aren't 'setups'. There are very concrete lines in the Slav especially. If you play Bf5 out early before dxc4 in the Nf3+Nc3 variation for example, thats known as the 'failed Slav' due to Qb3 tactics.
I recommend against d4, play the Classic QGD and against e4, Open Games 1...e5, although French may be ok too. The Tarrasch, well you need to know how to play IQPs well and the tactics that come out of it....

Tactics books you may find useful(saw in a couple of your games that you missed some elementary tactics):
A World Champion's Guide to Chess by Susan Polgar (This is a beginning chess book that I'd describe as a beginning tactics book with a few other general chess playing topics included such as rules, rudimentary strategy, basic endgame info)
Back to Basics: Tactics by Dan Heisman (This is one of the better basic tactics books I've seen.)
Chess Tactics for Champions by Susan Polgar (A bit more advanced. Wouldn't get this one until you've worked through either or preferably both of the two books previously mentioned.)
A few repertoire books for White related to what's been suggested in this thread(Not needed at this stage, but the siren song of opening books is hard to resist):
Starting Out: 1e4! by Neil McDonald (A little more interesting than most 1.e4 repertoire books because it recommends the Scotch Game and Open Sicilian instead of the Bishop's Opening and some way to avoid the Open Sicilian.)
A Killer Chess Opening Repertoire by Aaron Summerscale and Sverre Johnsen (Colle-Zukertort based repertoire)
A Ferocious Opening Repertoire by Cyrus Lakdawala (Veresov based repertoire)
I don't know the World Champion's Guide to Chess, but I think Chess Tactics for Champions is quite good. If you find it a little tough in the beginning I think you can just stick to it and work more and get used to its rhythm. I don't think it's very advanced.

I don't think it's very advanced.
I didn't mean to suggest that it's an advanced book, just a bit tougher than the other two I mentioned.

Hi guys, great reply's,going to stick with 1.e4 and look at tactics and different openings. I do like to build a strong attack, maybe give openings where the f pawn is pushed at sometime??

King's gambit pushes this pawn as early as in the 2nd move: 1.e4 e5 2.f4

Just about any defence against e4 runs into f4, if White so chooses:
Against the..
open games:
e4-e5
Nc3-Nf6
f4! vienna game
Sicilian
e4-c5
Nc3-d6(or whatever)
f4! Sicilian Grand Prix
Caro Kann
e4-c6
d4-d5
f3!? Fantasy attack
French
e4-e6
d4-d5
Nc3-Nf6
e5-Nfd7
f4! steinitz attack
Pirc
e4-d6
d4-Nf6
Nc3-g6
f4! austrian attack
Alekhine
e4-Nf6
e5-Nd5
d4-d6
c4-Nb6
f4! four pawns attack
Now I am not an e4 player but I think these are fun variations, and almost mainstream.
Hi all
I'm looking to have a go at playing 1.d4, Is there an opening system that has a familiar set up/plan when playing against blacks various options?? d5 NF6 g6 etc etc. I'm not wanting to go into colle sytems, london, torre etc at present I play a slav/tarrasch set up against 1 d4,Nf3,c4 etc and french against 1.e4 Any advice would be much appreciated
